MOD Safety Enabling Arrangement

Safety Assurance Services Limited has teamed with Lockheed Martin STASYS Limited of Farnham, who specialise in the provision of a range of independent technical consultancy services to the MOD and other customers, for the MOD Safety Enabling Arrangement. The Team has experience of past collaboration on a number of successful projects.

The STASYS / Safety Assurance Services Team has been awarded a 5 year enabling arrangement by MOD (DCI Gen 227/03 Contract SSESA/1018) for system safety and environmental support of defence equipment and systems. The arrangement allows departments within MOD with responsibility for managing systems with safety and environmental risk, to obtain the services of specialist consultants.

Lockheed Martin STASYS Limited specialise in the provision of a range of independent technical consultancy services, including functional safety. STASYS has teamed with Safety Assurance Services Ltd, who specialise in safety assurance and the development of safety cases. Both companies concentrate on the Defence sector and bring “best practice” experience from other industries.

The STASYS/SAS Team has experience of supporting many IPTs and other MOD agencies, and also has exceptional knowledge of the SMART Acquisition process. The Team has particular experience of the development and use of DPA/DLO’s new Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management System (ASEMS) and is helping organisations to work to POSMS and POEMS. The STASYS/SAS Team has a comprehensive understanding of current programmes and their objectives, particularly the requirements for ‘system-of-systems’ coherence and interoperability assurance.

Assistance can be provided in the following safety and environmental support areas:

• Development of Safety Policy, Strategies and Management Systems.

• Preparing safety requirements for specifications including conducting Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessment.

• Assessing safety submissions made by contractors and tenderers.

• Facilitating safety risk assessments.

• Preparation of Safety Cases (including for legacy systems).

• Independent Safety Auditing.

• Independent validation of test and trials information for safety.

• Advice and assistance in the setting up of Environmental Management Systems based on MOD policy (including EMAS or ISO 14001 based environmental management systems).

• Audit / review of Safety and Environmental Management Systems and assistance in compliance with ASEMS.
